Practical Collaboration Tips from ClickExpose
If you’ve ever felt like growing your business is harder than it should be especially when it comes to marketing you’re not alone. That’s where collaboration comes in, not just as a feel-good value, but as a strategic lever.
This month we asked Hoddesdon based company ClickExpose to share some thoughts on how collaborative thinking (and doing) can save money, boost marketing outcomes, and help local businesses punch well above their weight.
Founder Ashley Phillips says,
We’re a Google-specialist agency and while we focus on things like SEO, Google Ads, and protecting ad budgets from click fraud, what really fuels our work is the belief that businesses grow faster together.
Collaboration isn’t just about being supportive it’s about gaining leverage. Especially in spaces like HEC & TEC, where smart people from different sectors are just metres apart, there’s huge untapped value.
Here’s what real collaboration looks like.
At the start of the year we joined forces with Theobalds based business VOW Nutrition, who supported our teams recent fitness challenge with a selection of their brilliant products, in exchange for some strategic SEO and Ad guidance…which has now turned into a more formal arrangement.
Other Strategic Skill Swaps we’ve traded:
- An SEO roadmap in exchange for accountancy advice
- An end-to-end Google Ads funnel strategy for HR guidance and policy checks
- Conversion tracking setup in return for GDPR advice from a legal neighbour
None of these were casual favours, they were meaningful exchanges that saved us both time, cost, and trial-and-error. The takeaway?
Don’t underestimate the skills next door. We’ve seen other business communities use simple, low-cost collaboration tactics to great effect — and there’s no reason we can’t do more of the same across the centres.
For example:
- Co-authoring a lead magnet or downloadable guide between two businesses in different sectors
- Running a joint workshop or session in the centre’s shared spaces
- Recording a short “two expert” video series, sharing insights from different fields and cross-promoting to each other’s networks These don’t need big budgets or long timelines — just a bit of planning and two businesses who can add value to each other’s audience.
Sometimes collaboration is about being generous with your time and expertise, like agreeing to be featured in a blog or in the newsletter, offering advice without any expectation of a return.
Did you know on average, 23.5% of Google Ads clicks are wasteful and most SMEs don’t realise they’re paying for clicks from bots, marketing companies, spammers, or even competitors.
Since Google makes its revenue from clicks, there’s always been a question of transparency: who’s checking the checker? To address this, Google approved a small number of third-party platforms to independently monitor traffic and block invalid clicks in real-time. Yes one of those happens to be us
As one of only a handful of platforms with Google Click Tracker API approval, we can connect directly to Google Ads to:
- Detect and block wasteful clicks in real-time
- Exclude IPs, devices, and behaviours that suggest abuse
- Preserve budget and improve targeting accuracy
